about

This song was written for Charles Dowding as a thank you for all the inspiration he and his place, Homeacres has given me. It also reflects on how all the riches in the world cannot buy the happiness to be found whilst sitting and appreciating nature.

lyrics

You said it's illegal to dance and to sing
You took the joy from most everything
But you've never been to Homeacres I think
That makes me richer than you
And while you were consumed with corruption and greed
You missed the whole springtime and the sowing of seeds
And you never tasted those carrots and peas
That makes me richer than you
And for all of your mountains of money and power
You never sat there and watched the bees on the flowers
And you never shared those precious few hours
That makes me richer than you
I'm richer than you 'cos I gather the leaves
And the weeds and I catch the rain
I'm richer than you 'cos I dance as i watch
All the seasons come round again
I'm richer than you could ever dream of being
When it all hits the fan, I'll be there by morning
To sit with the bees and your four minute warning
And I'll pay you no mind you just do what you do
'Cos if I died at Homeacres, I'll still be richer than you.
